Math Minute is a timed arithmetic drill app for iPhone and iPad. It runs on iOS 26 / iPadOS 26 or later, and also on Apple Silicon Macs and Apple Vision Pro through Apple’s iPad-app compatibility.

Common questions

How do I start a drill?

Tap one of the operation buttons on the main menu — Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, or All — and confirm Yes on the “Ready?” prompt. The timer starts as soon as you confirm, and the first problem appears immediately.

To stop a timed drill early, tap Cancel in the top corner. In Practice Mode the same button reads Done.

How do I choose which operations and number range to practice?

Tap Settings from the main menu, then adjust:

  • Largest Operand — the biggest number that can appear in any problem (10 to 30, default 12). Lower it for younger learners, raise it for tougher rounds.
  • Session Time — how long the timer runs (30 seconds to 5 minutes, in 30-second steps).

The operation itself is chosen on the main menu — pick Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, or All (a randomized mix of the four). Division problems are always whole-number answers within the largest-operand range.

What is Practice Mode?

Flip the Practice Mode toggle in Settings on, and the next drill you start runs without a timer. You can work through as many problems as you want at your own pace and tap Done when you’re finished.

Rounds played in Practice Mode are not saved to the high-scores list — by design. Practice Mode is for warming up, helping someone learn, or just enjoying problems without the pressure.

How do letter grades work?

When a timed drill ends, Math Minute scores your round and shows:

  • Grade — a letter grade based on the percentage of problems you got correct
  • Total Problems — how many problems you attempted in the time you had
  • Correct and Incorrect — the breakdown of your answers

The letter grade only reflects accuracy, not speed. To improve your grade, slow down a touch and finish each problem correctly; to climb the high-score list, get more problems right per minute.

How are high scores tracked?

Each timed drill is stored on your device with its operation, session length, and grade. The High Scores screen lists your best runs for each drill configuration, sorted by grade.

High scores are stored locally on the device where you play. To start fresh, open Settings → Clear High Scores.

Are there parental settings?

Before handing the device to a child, set the Largest Operand, Session Time, and operation you want them to practice. Math Minute has no accounts, no chat, no social features, no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no network connection, so once it’s set up, practice stays focused on arithmetic.

Does Math Minute support VoiceOver and Dynamic Type?

Math Minute is built in SwiftUI and follows the system text and accessibility settings, including Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, Bold Text, Increase Contrast, and Reduce Motion. If a label, button, or screen is hard to use with any of these enabled, please report it so we can fix it.

Does Math Minute sync with iCloud?

No. Math Minute does not use iCloud sync. Settings and high scores are stored locally on the device where you use the app. A full device backup (iCloud Backup, or encrypted iTunes/Finder backup) will include them, but the app itself does not push or pull anything over the network.

Is there a Mac version?

A native Mac version is not currently planned, but Math Minute runs unchanged on Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later) and on Apple Vision Pro through Apple’s built-in iPad-app compatibility. Buy it once on the App Store and it will appear on every signed-in device that qualifies, including those.

Math Minute won’t open or crashes on launch. What should I try?

Restart your iPhone or iPad and make sure you’re running the latest available version of Math Minute and iOS / iPadOS. If the problem persists, delete and reinstall the app from your App Store purchase history — your purchase is preserved, but please note that deleting the app erases your local high scores and settings, since they’re stored on the device only.

How do I report a bug?

Please email us at support@magicboxsoft.com and include:

  • Your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision Pro model
  • Your iOS / iPadOS / macOS / visionOS version
  • The Math Minute version (visible on the App Store listing)
  • The drill you were running (operation, largest operand, session time)
  • The steps that led to the problem, plus any screenshots if it’s visual

If you’ve enabled crash reporting in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements (with Share with App Developers turned on), Apple has already shared an anonymized crash report with us. Mentioning the approximate time it happened helps us find it.
